Over the last few years, we could see this company mentioned a lot when it comes to top speed record as their Venom GT managed to hit 270 mph in 2014. This wasn’t official run, but still, it was considered to be the fastest production street legal vehicle. Recently they have prepared something new, the Hennessey Venom F5 that comes with 7.4-liter twin turbo V8 capable of producing 1,600 hp packed in carbon fiber chassis that weighs only 2,950 pounds. Top speed of 301 mph has been promised, and the company has yet to confirm this result.

It was the year 2014 when the Hennessey Venom GT reached 270 mph at the Kennedy Space Center. This was done only in one direction, and the rules say that it needs to be done both ways for it to become official. Even with this incredible result, their run wasn’t accepted by the Guinness Book of World Records.

4.Bugatti Chiron – 261 mph

To be completely honest, all this mania with 250+ mph or 400+ km/h supercars started with Bugatti Veyron, and while we had fast Lambos, Ferraris, Porsches, and others, this one first managed to break 1,000 hp and 250 mph. All that happened in 2005, and it is time for a successor which comes in the Bugatti Chiron. The same engine but with more power, similar design but with a lot more aggressive appearance is the recipe that the company used and it is no wonder it is capable of hitting 261 mph. One more thing to note, this speed was achieved with the street legal setup, so we expect it to be a lot faster, especially when you see that the next in line is his older brother Veyron Super Sport that has a deficit of about 300 hp over Chiron.

5.Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – 268 mph

The original Veyron managed to snatch the speed record but wasn’t long after that the SSC Ultimate Aero that took over the title. Bugatti wanted to strike back, and they delivered Veyron Super Sport that had a total of 1,200 hp compared to 1,000 that its older brother offered. This vehicle was topped out at 268 mph on the Ehra-Lessin race track that VW Group has.

6.SSC Ultimate Aero – 256 mph

Bugatti is a well-known brand, similar is with Volkswagen, and when the SSC or Shelby SuperCars managed to beat the top speed record of Veyron, it was a big surprise as not many did hear about this company. Their SSC Ultimate Aero packs 6.3-liter twin turbo V8 that pumps out 1,287 hp. One interesting thing about this beast is that it doesn’t offer electronic driver aids which is just insane when you take a look at the power it provides. It is a certain recipe for death if you don’t have black belt 9th day in racing.

7.Tesla Roadster – Claimed 250 mph

We know that electric cars are not usually built for crazy performances in terms of top speed, but we are used to seeing Tesla pushing the boundaries with their vehicle, and their new Roadster is no different. At this moment we know that they expect to breach 250 mph and that the acceleration from 0 to 60 will be done in 1.9 seconds. To even better things with this one, the company packs 200 kWh battery pack that should be enough for 620 miles per charge.

8.Saleen S7 Twin Turbo – 248 mph

When the S7 was introduced, it was a first mid-engined supercar produced by any U.S. company. It delivered 550 hp but the version we are talking about came a few years later with the same 7.0-liter V8 engine but this time with two turbos that pushed the power output to 750 hp. This was good enough for 0-60 mph sprint in 2.8 seconds and a quarter-mile run of 10.5 seconds. Top speed was another impressive thing about this machine as it could reach 248 mph.

9.Koenigsegg CCR – 242 mph

A small company from Sweden managed to hold the top speed record with Koenigsegg CCR that was soon taken by Veyron. This vehicle packed 4.7-liter V8 engine in a lightweight body that is made primarily of carbon-fiber. Pure driving feel is provided as there is only a small number of driving aids.

10.McLaren F1 – 241 mph

This is a truly iconic vehicle, and it might be the coolest one ever created. What separates this one from anything else on the road is the fact that it was delivered all the way back in 1992. On top of that, it comes with 6.1-liter BMW M V12 engine that is put into gold-lined engine bay so it would provide better heat dissipation. With the one seat inside it places the driver in the middle giving the closest to Formula 1 experience.
