2020 Audi A5 Sportback: A Refreshed Luxurious Racing Vehicle

April 2nd, 2020: Around June last year, we received the news that Audi is going to launch the refreshed A5 models in 2020. Later in August 2019, we were all hyped up about the launch of the new A4 revised models and also excited about viewing the A5 Sportback prototype.

A month later, we learned that the company is going to introduce a refreshed A5 lineup in three body styles, namely, Coupe, Cabriolet, and Sportback. The manufacturer stated that the current year’s models will be “more attractive than ever.” The expected release date was later in 2019 or at the beginning of 2020, but if you want t read more, visit this website.

It came back with a Frankenstein approach. The four-door passenger seat incorporates space similar to the A4 models and competes in the cargo segment with the Q5 SUVs. The refreshed Sportback fun driving experience similar to the A4s and A5s. Key highlights of the car include a turbo engine, hatchback design, and top-class styling. The lows of the vehicle incorporate cramped rear seats, saddening brake performance, and a lower than expected luxurious experience.

The refreshed coupe comes with a few new additions. These include new exterior design, grille, and front & rear bumpers. Along with this, the Sportback comes with upgraded lighting elements in the exterior and trapezoidal tailpipes. The interior of the car now has a bigger touchscreen than its previous models along with updated feature software.

Presently, the 2020 Audi A5 Sportback comes in three trims, namely, Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige, which are similar to the A4s. The MSRP of the base trims of these models is $43,895, $47,695, and $53,595, respectively. Our favorite trim is the Premium Plus because it showcased great balance and features at its price.

The added $3800 difference from the Premium model adds many upgrades and features. These include 12.3″ gauge digital display, better-LED headlamps, a wireless charging pad for smartphones, push-button start along with keyless entry, blind-spot monitoring system, exterior heated mirrors, driver’s seat with memory, and SiriusXM satellite radio.

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder standard Quattro all-wheel-drive along with seven-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission generates 248-hp. According to reviewers, the 2020 Sportback accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in merely five seconds and therefore has better acceleration than the Buick Regal GS, BMW 430i Gran Coupe, and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti.

The vehicle is easy to drive around corners, and its agility encompasses its comfort. The vehicle may still be upset while crossing broken pavements and potholes when equipped with an optional adaptive suspension. However, the driver experience of the car is still impeccable because of the well-balanced steering wheel and immediate front tire responses. Therefore, it makes a swift turnaround very comfortable for the driver.

As per the EPA estimate, the current year’s Sportback models will showcase an average of 32 mpg on highways and 24 mpg in the city. Last year models differed in this aspect. They displayed an average of 34 mpg on highways and 23 mpg in the city. Reviewers are still awaiting test vehicle averages before making a final verdict. However, a few might have checked the previous models, and it showed a fuel economy of 34 mpg on highways.

The current year’s Sportback model also differentiates itself from pre-existing mainstream sedans in the market. It comprises not so plush yet luxurious cabin consisting of high-quality material, fit, and finishes meeting the expectations from the company and upper-class interior features. Unfortunately, the back seat space of the model is not as spacious as the A4s but comfortable enough for two adults of average size. Owners can even sacrifice their rear headroom for a smooth roofline.

The trims of this model come with luxurious necessities. Some of these include triple-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, all-encompassing sunroof, ambient interior lighting, and power front seats. Although designed as a hatchback, it still has a sloping roofline at the rear capable of hiding large cargo holds and liftgates operating with power. The roofline makes it more practical than the A5 coupe and convertible trims and the A4 models.

Reviewers are also delighted with the cargo space, and one of them reports the storage of 16 medium suitcases even after being unsatisfied with volume measurement. The reviewer also stated that the carry-on-suitcase area of the Sportback is better than most rivals except for the Regal GS. The interior of the car also has the Audi MMI infotainment system, which is one of the premium systems in the market.

The manufacturer also offers an optional 12.3″ Virtual Cockpit, which encompasses a digital gauge display. However, all the trims in this car come with a standard 10.1″ touchscreen infotainment system. Owners and drivers can control the system with a click wheel mounted on the console located between the driver and front-seat passenger.

Aside from the standard Audi MMI 10.1″ display infotainment system, the car also comes with standard integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Therefore, occupants can directly interact with the system. Owners have the option to add the optional Audi Connect Prime and Audi Connect Plus to incorporate navigation into the vehicle.

Furthermore, both the NHTSA and IIHS have given the full five-star rating and highest score to the 2020 Audi A5 Sportback. Moreover, IIHS gave a superior rating to the model with both the standard and optional systems. The car comes with a range of standard safety, security and assistance features such as forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, etc. Owners can even add optional features such as lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, etc. Unfortunately, there are certain features available only in the Prestige trims.

Another disappointing fact about the current year’s Sportback is that it doesn’t provide the best warranty and maintenance plans in comparison to its rivals. Presently, the vehicle comes with a standard four-year or 50,000 miles limited and warranty plan. Besides this, the car doesn’t come with any complimentary scheduled maintenance. Meanwhile, the Kia Stinger comes with a 10-years or 100,000 miles powertrain warranty. Conclusively, the 2020 Audi A5 Sportback is a coupe-styled practical hatchback with many attractive driving advancements.
