Ford was thinking out of the box when introduced us with Flex in 2009, and its luxury division was thinking the same but in much better way and also grant us something interesting that year. After seven years in the market, let’s see what is special about 2017 Lincoln MKT.
2017 Lincoln MKT LOOKS
MKT is actually based on Ford Flex, which is an ultimate “shoe box” on wheels, and hardly makes us interested with its design features, unless you are geologist fascinated by the design of the rocks.
Unlike Flex, MKT looks interesting, with daring grill and unusual rear lights, and as seven years old it can still make you easily turn your gaze on the street in an effort catch a glimpse of its distinctiveness. Whether you like or not, you have to agree that it leaves an impression and that is not often seen in its class.
It is sad that boldness from exterior design didn’t overlap on the interior too. It received a refresh for the 2013 model year but, overall grayness and lack of imagination continued to live. If it just could be redesigned again and aligned with new MKT looks, and if they want they can leave peculiar exterior untouched. Depending on your needs you can accommodate 6 or 7 persons.
If you choose 6-seater, you will get the second row with captain chairs, but the 7-seater version comes with two bench-like rows. Front seats are Volvo-like comfortable, firm and yet cushy at the same time, and even third row can accommodate adults, although getting in and out can prove to be challenging. The boot is big, with 76 cubic feet of cargo space in general, but not so large compared to the competition.
We could hear many jokes comparing this vehicle with the hearse, but since you will be driving people, it is important to offer a high level of safety. Don’t worry everybody stays tucked in as a rear-view camera, six airbags, rear park assist, MyKey system, active parking assistance, lane-keep assist, forward collision warnings, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors with rear cross traffic alerts, adaptive headlamps, and a seatbelt airbag system is offered for both safety and convenience.
It is well backed up in this segment as 3.7-liter V-6 makes 303 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, and it is, as naturally aspired engine, perfect for those not lazy to chase big revs. Those that want more over wider rev range can go for EcoBoost V-6, that pumps out 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.
EcoBoost is newer, better, more efficient, more powerful and on top of that, models equipped with this unit offer three-mode continuously controlled damping suspension that can react quickly to changing surfaces and conditions.
The standard one is decent as you get tri-zone climate control, Sync3 infotainment system with an 8-inch screen, a 10-speaker audio system, a keyless entry control pad located in the door frame, remote starting, heated.
Also included are cooled 12-way power adjustable front seats, a power tilt/telescoping steering column, a power liftgate, and even more. For extra, you can opt for Elite package and Technology package and couple of other separate options.
So, 2017 Lincoln MKT still looks interesting on the outside, it is spacious, luxurious, it got Ford‘s EcoBoost under the hood, and it is well equipped. We know that sales are ridiculous compared to some competitors, but not everybody is daring enough to go for this guy. If you don’t like to blend with the environment, you have a unique choice at hand and don’t worry about introduction year and leave the thoughts about outdatedness, as this kind of rarity we are probably not going to see anytime soon.
